All about the Sheats-Goldstein Residence and its eccentric owner

It’s an annual event founded by people who hoped to stir activism to clean up and preserve a planet that is now home to some 8 billion humans and assorted trillions of other organisms. According to Variety, Kimmel bought the property in 2002 for $925,000 and lived in it with former girlfriend Sarah Silverman. But after buying his current home, he held onto this property and rented it out for a few years. The grand house has changed hands a few times since then, and hit the market on Monday afternoon with Christopher Dyson of The Agency. This is the first-ever architecture donation made to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and it’s surely one that will continue to inspire young architects, interior designers, and art and fashion aficionados for many years to come. The house is so impressive that in 2021, Kanye West aka Ye enlisted James Goldstein to help him design and spruce up his newly purchased Malibu mansion.

These are the California cities where $150,000 still buys you a home. Could you live here?

Nelson had long been concerned about the environment when a massive offshore oil spill sent millions of gallons onto the Southern California coast in 1969. Nelson, after touring the spill site, had the idea of doing a national “teach-in” on the environment, similar to teach-ins being held on some college campuses at the time to oppose the war in Vietnam. The Kimmels’ former neighbors were actors John Krasinski and Emily Blunt.

The Fabulous Outdoors

Spencer generously gave me an exclusive behind-the-scenes walkthrough. Nelson and others, including activist Denis Hayes, worked to expand the idea beyond college campuses, with events all around the country, and came up with the Earth Day name. Millions of people around the world will pause on Monday, at least for a moment, to mark Earth Day.

Jimmy Kimmel & His Family Live In a Private Area of the Hollywood Hills

Like many of the rooms, the bedroom is not directly connected to the rest of the house through the indoors. The home features one-of-a-kind outdoor hallways, decorated by the sky and a myriad of vegetation. Every room in the home, particularly the living room feels as if it belongs in a different era.

The schedule of activations and parties will appeal to football fans and architecture aficionados alike (along with top-level executives and celebrities) who may be priced out of the tickets to the game itself. “There's no mistake where we're highlighting the city of Los Angeles in the background, and people are coming for this immersive experience where they can come and feel what it's like to be part of this Hollywood lifestyle for a minute. With the house having this incredible pedigree, all of the incredible shots that have happened here, the events that have happened here” says Spencer. The current (and second) owner of the home is entrepreneur James F. Goldstein. It was originally built between 1961 and 1963 by famed architect John Lautner, who was one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s protegees. Made from poured-in-place concrete, steel, and wood, the 4500 square foot house has five bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms.

The property where the Hollywood legend lived for nearly 50 years has come on the market asking $47.9 million. The Jackie Treehorn house from The Big Lebowski is, in fact, the Sheats-Goldstein residence, owned by elusive businessman James Goldstein. It’s located in L.A.’s Beverly Crest neighborhood and it’s a private property.

The James Goldstein house was in a state of disrepair when the businessman purchased it in 1972 for $185,001. Nowadays, the property is reportedly worth roughly $75 million or more. Businessman James Goldstein has been the sole owner of the Sheats-Goldstein house since he purchased it in 1972. He continues to spend time at the residence, but also often rents it out for photoshoots or as filming location for Hollywood movies or TV shows. The 4,500-square-foot Sheats-Goldstein residence was designed by John Lautner (one of the most noteworthy American architects of the twentieth century) and built between 1961 and 1963, in Los Angeles’ Beverly Crest neighborhood.

The two families lived directly across the street from each other, according to Mansion Global. Krasinski and Kimmel enjoyed playing pranks on each other, a tradition they discussed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. For example, Kimmel gift-wrapped Krasinski and Blunt’s entire house one year. The purchase price in 2008 was $6 million and the house now has an estimated value of more than $9.4 million.

The concrete-and-wood house was built into the sandstone ledge of a hill, and it’s a testament to the connection between man and nature. This 1963-built mansion is an architectural gem and one of Hollywood’s best-kept secrets. And we’re here to tell you everything there is to know about the Selling Sunset-featured property where the Oppenheim group celebrated their 10th anniversary. If you’re not familiar with John Lautner’s iconic Beverly Crest mansion, or with the estate’s flamboyant owner, then you’re definitely missing out. With a unique design by American architect John Lautner, and a touch of glam by owner James Goldstein, this futuristic mansion is an iconic Hollywood landmark – and a popular hangout spot for celebs.

This space is framed by a lawn that can accommodate up to 300 people. There’s also an outdoor catering kitchen, a fine dining area, as well as an outdoor media room. Unlike typical venues, every single event must be built from the ground up. While this is an incredible amount of effort, it's also what makes attending an event a true once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Various Hollywood movies and TV shows were filmed at the Sheats-Goldstein residence, including the now-iconic The Big Lebowski. Needless to say, Goldstein wants the good times to keep rolling at Club James even after he’s gone. What emerged was a two-decades-long partnership to remodel the house, which ended when John Lautner passed away in 1994. However, Goldstein never stopped tweaking and upgrading his Beverly Crest dwelling, even adding a nightclub to the list of amenities. At the time, the house had fallen into disrepair and was in dire need of a makeover, so Goldstein reached out to Lautner to help bring the residence back to its former glory. Each space is open and offers stunning views of downtown Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean, with glass walls throughout that serve to blend the indoors with the outdoors.

Stewart’s former address is one of the largest properties in the area, as it spans two lots—one of which the Academy Award winner reportedly purchased decades ago in order to expand his beloved garden. Unfortunately, the Sheats-Goldstein house is a private property, so it’s not open to the public. For now, James Goldstein is living his best, most glamorous life up in his hillside mansion overlooking the City of Angels. In the meantime, the residence is available for rent for photoshoots, and we’re willing to bet we’ll be seeing more of it in upcoming movies, TV shows, and music videos. The rapper was reportedly impressed and fascinated with the architecture of the Sheats-Goldstein house, and wanted to do something similar with his $57 million new home.

This year’s Earth Day is focusing on the threat that plastics pose to our environment, with a call to end all single-use plastic and find replacements for their use so they can quickly be phased down. The overwhelming public response to the first Earth Day is credited with adding pressure for the U.S. Congress to do more to address pollution, and it did, passing landmark legislation including the Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act.
